Santorini is the postcard of the Cyclades — a crescent of volcanic rock where villages spill down the caldera in geometric white and blue. Days here are slow: a swim at Red Beach, an afternoon tasting Assyrtiko in a hillside winery, and an evening spent watching the sun drop behind the caldera from a terrace in Oia.

Beyond the famous viewpoint towns, the island rewards wandering. Ancient Thera sits on a wind-scoured ridge, the black-sand beaches of the east coast stay quiet until late, and the fishing harbour of Ammoudi serves grilled octopus a few steps from the water.
