The Amalfi Coast stretches for fifty kilometres between Sorrento and Salerno, and every one of them is dramatic. Positano tumbles down to the sea in layers of peach and terracotta; Amalfi holds a striking Arab-Norman cathedral; Ravello sits high enough to see the whole coast at once.
Travel by boat wherever possible — the coastal road is beautiful but slow in summer. Build in a day for Capri, and an early morning for the Path of the Gods, a ridge walk with views that justify the climb.
