Vietnam rewards travelling slowly, and it rewards it financially: the country is cheap in the ways that matter — food, transport, internal flights — and expensive only where you choose to be. Two weeks here often costs less than one week in Europe.
A hand-built Vietnam trip starts at ₹44,000–₹53,000 per person for 7 nights, land only and based on two people sharing. That is roughly .
International flights, visas and travel insurance are not included.
The price excludes international flights, visa fees, travel insurance, meals not mentioned, and optional activities.
The best window is March–April and October–November. Travelling either side of the peak weeks usually means the same weather, lower hotel rates and far fewer people at the main sights — which is the cheapest upgrade there is.
7 nights is the sweet spot for a first trip: long enough to settle in, short enough to stay affordable. Five nights works for a short break if you stay in one area. Ten to fourteen nights lets you slow down and add a second region — and because the per-night cost barely changes, the long trip is better value per day.
The route that works is one direction, not a loop. Fly into Hanoi and out of Ho Chi Minh City (or the reverse) and you never retrace a step. The overnight trains are cheap and characterful but they cost you a night's sleep; on a two-week trip we usually fly the long legs and train the scenic ones, like the Hai Van Pass stretch between Hue and Da Nang.
