Peru is Machu Picchu and a great deal besides. Cusco's colonial streets sit on Inca foundations, the Sacred Valley holds markets and salt pans and terraces, and the Andes here are so high that the first two days are about acclimatising properly, not sightseeing.
Beyond the Inca heartland there is Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon's condors and the Amazon basin. The single most common mistake is rushing Cusco — we build in the slow start the altitude demands.
