Patagonia is shared between Chile and Argentina and covers more than a million square kilometres, most of it wilderness. Torres del Paine in Chile is the headline — a massif of granite spires above turquoise lakes, with the classic W trek running beneath them.
On the Argentine side, the Perito Moreno glacier calves into Lago Argentino with a sound like thunder, and the lakeside town of El Calafate makes a comfortable base. Distances are vast; plan on flying or driving long days to link the highlights.
