Morocco fits an improbable amount into a small country. Marrakech's medina and gardens, Fes's tanneries and 9th-century lanes, the blue town of Chefchaouen, the High Atlas passes and the Sahara at Erg Chebbi — all reachable without a single flight.
It is also the easiest introduction to North Africa there is: direct flights, familiar food with a twist, and roads that make a road trip genuinely pleasurable. The trick is not doing too much of it.
