Ladakh is a high-altitude desert at 3,500 metres and up: Leh's old town and monastery, the blue of Pangong Tso, Nubra's sand dunes at Hunder, and the Khardung La pass. The light is extraordinary and the emptiness is the point.
The altitude is not a detail — the first two days are for acclimatising, and a rushed itinerary here is a miserable one. Flights into Leh from Delhi take 80 minutes and are frequently cancelled, so we build slack in.
